This activity involves various countries world-wide that compete for peace, for their country’s pride, and to live their dream of being in the Olympics. The Olympic Winter Sport Games are an attractive event to people because the Modern Olympics provide excitement and energy to all watching, and because Hockey interests millions around the world that are cheering for their country to win the gold medal. First, People enjoy the Modern Olympics because of its energetic atmosphere and fun-filled activities. The first modern Winter Olympics started in 1924. This was hosted was by France in the city of Chamonix (Infoplease). There were 10 events in 1924, but in 2010 there were 16 winter events, including Alpine skiing, Ice hockey, Luge, and figure skating. In 1924, Charles Jewtraw won the first gold medal for the 500 m speed skating event (DatabaseOlympics). In all Olympics, there are three different awards, third place is a bronze medal, second is a silver medal, and first place is a gold medal. The Olympics today are growing vastly in the amount of countries that participate. In the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, there were about 2,000 athletes, 82 nations, and 86 events to participate in (Olympic.org). The Modern Winter Olympic Games are exciting and entertaining for the audience and gives the athletes a chance to show pride for their country and to win medals. Second, the winter sport that many people find most appealing is Ice Hockey. People around the world enjoy watching and participating in the fun-filled game.
